Acne is a common skin condition that occurs as a result of blackheads, whiteheads and pustules in the skin. Acne usually begins at puberty through adolescents, late teens or through their early twenties. For some individuals acne can develop in the late twenties and even in their thirties.
What causes acne?
Acne is caused by the sebaceous gland that is responsible for producing oils. The skin become sensitive to the hormones called testosterone in the blood. This hormone is present in both men and women, which causes the production of excess oil in the skin. Excess oil production and dead skin cells on the skin clogs the follicles. This results in the formation of blackheads and whiteheads.
We all have acne bacterium on our skins, but those who are prone to acne, the build up of oils create a perfect environment for the acne bacteria to multiply. This triggers an inflammatory response in the follicle resulting in red pus-filled acne spots.
