How Does Laser Hair Removal Work?
Hair grows in cycles of three stages: anagen (growth), catagen (transitional), and telogen (resting). Diode laser targets hair follicle in the anagen phase, which is when the hair responds best to the treatment. About 30% of the hairs is in anagen phase which is why multiple treatments needed to see results.
The energy travels harmlessly through epidermis and dermis until it strikes the follicle, which contains a dense melanin-rich hair shaft and bulb. The dark colored melanin absorbs the light and rises quickly in temperature destroying the follicle so that the hair cannot grow at all, resulting in permanent hair reduction.
