What is dry skin?
Dry skin is a very common skin condition. There are many causes of dry skin, such as environmental or lifestyle factors. Other factors that causes dry skin is low humidity, frequent hand washing and glands in the skin not producing oils. Symptoms of dry skin includes; flakiness, sensitivity, scales, itchiness and cracks. At times dry skin comes and goes, but sometimes it be chronic. Whilst in severe cases it can be a result of eczema.
What is dehydrated skin?
This type of skin is a common type that we all experience. The difference between dry skin and dehydrated skin is that dehydrated skin still produces oils from the glands. But, the skin does not retain moisture. If you find that your skin feels tight and papery it means that your skin is dehydrated. Nevertheless, dry you tend to see dry skin in certain areas where there is thin skin. For instance, you may notice small fine lines, when the skin is pinched together. Also dehydrated skin, can be caused by prescription medication to environmental factors like sun exposure.
What can I do to help to improve my skin?
- Apply moisturizer several times a day, especially after bathing, or after washing your hands.
- Stay away from harsh products that can strip your oils.
- Use water base products to help to relieve the skin and for your skin type.
