Ageing eyes, What can I do?
- Posted on: Nov 15 2019
We often look at ourselves in the mirror and notice that our eye area is looking aged and wonder what are we doing wrong. This sign of aging occur due to our daily habits. For instance, smiling and years of squinting. Other ways we get these lines is due to genetics, gravity and stress plays a role too. This sign of ageing appears in the form of fine lines, crows feet, dark circles and under eye puffiness due to our daily habits. Therefore, it is important to know what we can do to correct out daily habits to slow down ageing.
1.Scrubbing your eyes is only ageing you
We all know the importance of removing makeup and keeping our eye area clean. So we tend to scrub the area to remove any make up or mascara we have. We fail to realise that the eye area is gentle and need special care. Rubbing the eye area will only create those lines more. So it is important not to scrub and be gentle by using a makeup remover, gentle cleaner or oil based to clear the makeup. Similarly, by saturating micellar water on a cotton round and gently dab on the eye area to remove excess make up. Thus, preventing you from scrubbing your eyes.
2. Not using eye cream
Applying eye cream is the most important step we should add to our skincare regimen. Failing to do this will only lead to ageing around the eyes. As the skin around the eyes are thinnest than the rest of our body. Thus, being sensitive and susceptible to damage.
3. Using the wrong eye cream
We think that we just need one eye cream that targets all the issues. However, we are wrong as there are different eye creams targeting different problems. For instance, to target fine line and crows feet it is best to use eye cream that has retinol and hyaluronic acid to plump the skin. Whereas, for dark circles, it is important that the eye cream contain vitamin c, licorice, kojic acid and niacinamide to combat dark circles. For puffy eyes, look out for eye creams that contain caffeine, which helps to reduce the puffiness by improving circulation. Thus, important to choose the right cream to target your issues around the eyes.
4. Applying eye cream wrongly
The best way to apply eye cream is to avoid tugging the skin. To get a pea size of the cream and dab small dots around the eye and brow bone using your ring finger. Apply the cream starting from the inner corner of the eye working outwards. This will ensure that there is no pressure when applying the cream. Once it is applied, it is important to wait for couple of minutes before applying sunscreen or makeup. Thus, ensuring that the eye cream is absorbed completely.
Other habits that causes ageing around the eyes:
- Using the wrong the concealer, such as cakey concealer can cause those lines. Best is to use light weight concealers that are gently on the eyes.
- Not eating healthy, it is best to eat food that are high in vitamins and minerals to ensure the skin gets its vital antioxidants, such as vitamin k, vitamin c and vitamin b. Thus, it is important to have a healthy balance diet.
